Good news! Droom en Daad (Makersloket) granted my application for my stained glass project ‘Light it Up’. 🚨

Brief explanation of the project
In present times there is a lot of loneliness, especially a certain vulnerable group has a greater need for color, perspective and interpretation in the place where they spend a lot of time. I want to realize 8 stained glass works of art that are shown in various places such as hospitals, ICs, homeless shelters, retirement homes, etc. I want to explore the boundaries of the age-old craft of stained glass with innovative techniques and contemporary designs.

So what’s going on now…
Last month I followed an introductory course stained glas. In this basic course I learned the basics of the craft and now I'm experimenting myself. From September 2021 I will follow a professional course of 12 days. The process is successful for me if I know even more the 'ins and outs' of this wonderful craft. In my own studio I can practice even more in my own time and experiment with new uses or applications of the traditional stained glass. In the end I make 8 artworks for the institutions described above!

Here are the photo’s of the new project for Havensteder commissioned by @noortjebosma I was asked to work with the theme’s connection, freedom, nature and diversity. It is a contemporary design with iconic illustrations, shapes, typography and graphic patterns. A lot of color and hints at the stained glass technique. In total I designed 21 light boxes (60 * 120 cm) for 7 portico’s.

ION II is a collaboration between @bierenbrood and Studio Ruwedata

The installation consists of 3 objects with a plotted pattern on a translucent panel. The objects hold a bright LED light that flashes with the speed of a stroboscoop. With the use of sensors the installation registers movement around it. When one sensor is triggered, the object respond tot the passenger. Dependent of the sensor the object can react independent of each other, thereby playing with it’s surroundings and the audience.

The pattern combined with the stroboscope effect creates a disorienting, psychedelic effect, which translates the imagery to a feeling. The mood of the image is transferred tot the audience in a way.

Every light box holds 4 stroboscopes that flash a pattern into the audience. The disorienting experience reminds of a black-out and the shining of an electrical loaded atom. ION I visualises the flow of information that on a daily basis is being send to our retinas via various black rectangular objects
